Disney Inspired Narrow Gauge RR NN3
|
Here is the general layout for the yet to be named NN3 Disney inspired layout. I've
struggled with an interesting track plan and it has been easy to over complicate all
of them. This sorta just happened as all good ideas do I suppose...and while not
intentional, I got an instant hidden Mickey in the process!
This is the core for what will be a
Rainbow Waterfall cut out of 3/4" Pine
and stacked. Over this I'll be laying on
foil and then Sculpy to get the right
effect.
I cut the deck for the bridge that will be
located over the gorge just outside the
Rainbow Cavern with a handy Laser.
I did a test assembly of some of the
parts for the bridge and mounted some
MTL Z Scale Flex Track on it. Here a
small sculpt I did of Donald Duck, helps
supervise the progress.
This will be a little line side station on
the bridge suspended over the gorge.
It backs up to the cliff wall and will have
lighting effects in each of the windows.
This was laser cut as well. I still have a
ton of details to add on and around it.
Here I've done some initial sandstone
rock formations out of simple floral
foam I purchased at the local big box
store. Easy to work with, dusty, but
shapes quickly. When I have them all
worked out I'll give them a couple of
coasts of thinned Gelcoat to harden
them. Spraying with simple High Fill
auto primer will work as well.
More work done. I've sculpted the rocks for the valley and cut out the pit where the rails will go over a simulated lava
tube. Below the layout I'll have some red and yellow lights hooked to Florescent Ballast to create a random flicker. Above
that will be some transparent red and yellow crumpled jells for added effect. From the viewing level all you should see is
the glow of the lava below.
Looking at the front you can see the base walls for the Rainbow Cavern. The lid, which will have the rest of the
mountain with the sandstone spires, has room for a 12" black light tube to illuminate the dayglow paint for the water.
I'm going to be using some of the initial designs for the ride to fill out the space and make it a bit more unique.
Rocks will be formed from molds and plaster, painted dark grey so only the shadows show when illuminated. A small
runaway mine train will be mounted on a ledge half way up the wall. This will be mounted on an old CD with a slow
motion display motor to drive it. Rock facing will cover the disc from view.
